Ram Bali Chauhan (1976)

Born in 1976, Ram Bali Chauhan studied sculpture at the College of Art, New Delhi, and completed his post graduate degree there in 2003. Chauhan has developed a unique artistic language that provokes a heightened response and participation from the viewer. Experimenting with the arrangement of lines and forms in his works, he consciously isolates specific contours and configurations of interest and magnifies these, creating a sensation of immediacy. Animals as well as human skeletons are recurrent motifs in his compositions.

Chauhan’s first solo exhibition was held at the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 2003, and was followed by another in 2006. In 2008, Chauhan had two solo exhibitions: ‘Voice of Violence’ at the Stainless Gallery, New Delhi, and ‘Shadow Lives’ at the Mint, New Delhi. He has also participated in the 12th Yuva Mahotsava Sahitya Kala Parisad in New Delhi in 2003, where he was honoured with an award, and the Indo Japan Art Symposium, India, in 2002-03. Chauhan’s work has been a part of group shows like ‘Insider’ at Bodhi Art, Mumbai, in 2007.

The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
