Born in 1960 and based in Trivandrum, Kerala, Babu Xavier is an artist whose canvases are brought alive with vivid colours and fantastic creatures. His brushes paint on full-blooded reds, vibrant yellows and sparkling blues and greens, creating nearly human figures with some sexual undertones in watercolours that seem to radiate light almost like a prism.

He trained under the guidance of J. Panicker as an apprentice which helped him understand the visual language in a more sophisticated and detailed manner which led him to cultivate his own signature style and language that is surreal and erotic. Inspired from a variety of sources like nature, science, the mind and the subconscious, his work is thought-provoking. Xavier has held many shows within India like the International Triennale of Art, New Delhi; Bharat Bhavan Biennale as well as in International platforms in Basel & Copenhagen as well.
