Ashish Kumar Maurya is an accomplished artist and scholar
currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Fine Art at Banaras Hindu
University, Varanasi. His doctoral research, A Study of New
Perceptions of Reality in Contemporary Indian Art (1990–
2020), examines evolving artistic narratives and practices
in modern India. He earned his MFA from the College of Art,
University of Delhi (2021) and his BFA from Banaras Hindu
University (2019).
Maurya’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting,
printmaking, photography, and mixed media, with a focus on
themes such as rural-urban dynamics, labor, and survival.
His artistic achievements include the prestigious Junior
Research Fellowship (JRF) awarded by the University Grants
Commission, the ART FOR HOPE grant from Hyundai Motor
India Foundation and the first prize in the Emerging Artist
category at MOJARTO’s ORA-2020. He is also a recipient
of the STATE AWARD from The State Lalit Kala Akademi,
Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
His works have been exhibited widely, both nationally and
internationally, at esteemed venues including the Lalit Kala
Akademi, New Delhi and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. Maurya
has also participated in notable art residencies and camps,
such as the CRACK International Art Camp in Bangladesh
and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA) Art
Camp in New Delhi.
